Pearls in the Tudor Period were one of the most popular pieces of jewelry and worn by almost all of the nobility and certainly royalty. Courtiers draped themselves with strands of pearls and often used them as decorations on their clothing as bodice jewelry and even stitched to the cloth itself.
The only stitching on this necklace is shown in the cross motif. Stitched with small Swarovski pearls, Swarovski crystals and seed beads, with a freshwater baroque pearl as the focal point.
Reminiscent of La Peregrina, a famous pearl worn by Mary I of England, this teardrop pearl is 1 1/2 cm long. Surrounding the beaded cross are Swarovski crystal pearls with crystal bicone spacers. I have finished the necklace with a large gold plated lobster claw clasp. The ends are double crimped and protected with wire guards for durability. The necklace measures 20 inches in length.
