This is a beautiful and regal necklace! The pendant showcases a lovely irregularly faceted rutillated quartz, you can easily see its characteristic golden silk needles, a unique quality of this mineral. It is set next to raw ruby chips and two small faceted citrine beads. There are thin gold heishi beads between the ruby & quartz. All beads are wire-wrapped to a 14k gold chain. Further up the chain are small polished garnet beads and faceted clear quartz in different sizes. It closes off with a small gold lobster clasp.
This necklace is approximately 23 inches long.

ABOUT THE STONES:
*A member of the quartz family, rutillated quartz is a rare mineral made of mainly titanium dioxide. Its refractive index is very high, meaning it shines brilliantly and disperses light. One distinguishing characterstic is its gold or blonde striations, needle-like and fine in appearance, which shine even more in the sun. As with quartz, it is an energizing and stabilizing stone.
*Rubies are an ancient stone, highly regarded amongst many Asian cultures, traded along the silk road, mentioned in the Bible, and worn by nobility, kings & queens, emperors and monarchs. Ruby comes from the mineral corundum, and the element chromium gives it its beautiful and alluring red. Many rubies are heat-treated now to enhance the red. Sapphire is the only other stone in the same family. Along with sapphire, diamonds & emeralds, rubies make up the four most precious gemstones. Rubies were exclusively mined in Upper Myanmar (Burma) and still are, and some of the most precious come from here, but many deposits have been found throughout Asia & Africa. Throughout time, red has been the color of love & passion, warmth & vitality. Rubies also have signified fortune and prosperity for many and are said to bring these qualities from their presence.
*The word garnet actually refers to a group of more than ten different gemstones, all with similar chemical composition. Garnets come in a wide variety of colors, although they are best known for their beautiful and rich deep red hues. Other colors include green, yellow and orange, and most recently, and rare, blue garnet discovered in Madagascar in the 1990s. Garnets have been used in jewelry from early Egyptian, Greek & Roman times, in fact garnets honored the Egyptian Goddess of War. Explorers and travelers often carried garnet as a talisman and protective stone. The Bohemian garnet jewelry tradition in the former Czechoslovakia was widely popularized in Western Europe, especially during the Victorian Era. It is used metaphysically as an energizing and regenerative stone, it balances, strengthens and protects. It is also the birthstone of January.
