This is a beautiful, all NATURAL ruby - from the corundum family of gemstones. Not clear enough for your typical jewelry store to sell as ruby, but I rather like the natural, more opaque look of this stone and the deep blood red color. Slightly faceted to catch the light nicely, I've created a four prong setting for it using 14kt gold filled wire. I created the bale nice and wide using four of the wires I've twisted to also catch the light nicely.
This is a more subtle stone for the girl that can appreciate stones in their natural, rougher state without the glitz and flash as this kind of natural corundum does have flaws and scratch marks that just don't polish out.
